Cabin fever: a term heard among people who live in back country areas, who because of winter weather conditions, are cooped up at home and lack the stimulation provided by contact with other humans. The result is cabin fever, a condition where the patient becomes increasingly restless, stir crazy and starts to crave human contact.

Cabin Fever is running rampant in the BC antique show scene. There have been no large shows for over 3 months. Dealers are feeling the effects of being cooped up during a long, dreary winter. Collectors haven’t seen their favourite dealers since last fall. They are becoming anxious to get out on the antique show trail again. Both groups are suffering from cabin fever.

The cure is coming! BC’s favourite show, the Best of the West Antique Expo now presents the Cabin Fever event – the first major show of the New Year. Dealers can get back to the environment they love best. Collectors can immerse themselves in the excitement and fun of BC’s biggest antique show. Everybody will feel a whole lot better!

A fascinating aspect of keeping family heirlooms is the fact that they may have monetary value far beyond what their owners can imagine. Find out more about your own heirlooms at Best of the West, Abbotsford, February 9 and 10.

The Identification clinic will feature Peter Blundell, CPA, a fully accredited member of the Canadian Association of Personal Property Appraisers, author and lecturer on antiques. Peter’s career in antiques has taken him throughout Europe, the USA and across Canada since 1969. Now living in Vernon, he travels across the west, doing appraisal work.

How it works:

  • Bring your items for appraisal. You may bring as many items as you wish.
  • When you arrive, go directly to the appraisal tables and get yourself a number. From this number you will be able to approximate your appointment time, then go and have fun searching the rest of the show and enjoy the many wonderful things on offer. If you miss your turn you will be inserted and accommodated at the next number in line. The Clinic operates from 10 am until 5 pm both Saturday, February 9 and Sunday, February 10.
  • At your appointed time, meet with the expert and show him your treasures.
  • Fees: $10 per item.
