Vintage Paper Show

Ontario collectors and dealers in old paper and ephemera have a legitimate outlet for their paper-collecting passion.

Many of Canada's top paper dealers, plus dealers from the USA will set up nearly 90 tables piled high with rare, unusual, eclectic and often whimsical vintage paper.

Collectors can find all of the following merchandise and more:

Transportation including railway and ocean liner items; Historical documents including land grants, mortgages and deeds; 30's/40's fashion magazines; Trans Canada Airline memorabilia; Old magic books; Old farm equipment booklets; Eatons Punkinhead memorabilia; Pulp fiction - crime, detective, Sci-Fi - including Weird Tales, The Shadow, The Phantom Detective, Vintage paperbacks; Movie posters, stills, lobby cards; Vintage photography on paper plus daguerreotypes, armbrotypes and tintypes; Sporting material - soccer, hockey, track and field dating to the 1920's; Ballet, opera, classical concert programs to 1920's; Autographs; Advertising; Letterheads; Postal covers; Nearly 100,000 vintage postcards, all villages, towns and cities in Ontario plus sports, transportation, holidays from Christmas to Halloween; Theatre and movie programmes; Poetry; Scientific journals; Comic books; Magazines.

“What is Ephemera? It is a term used to describe a wide range of minor, everyday documents intended for one-time or short-term use. The variety of ephemera is enormous: trade cards, valentines, newspapers, pamphlets, broadsides, billheads, magazines, postcards, sheet music, songsters, watch papers, trade catalogues, labels, letters, die-cuts, tickets, photographs, advertisements, indentures, greeting cards, theatre programs, chromolithographs, posters, invitations, timetables, brochures, clipper ship cards, baseball and hockey cards, bonds, stocks, maps, bookmarks, bank cheques, calendars, menus, luggage labels, business cards, and much more.

Ephemera collecting as we know it today began in the 19th century when commercial colour printing was invented and its use became widespread. Today, collectors cherish an enormous range of paper items preserved from our own and earlier eras. Often decorated with powerful graphics and intriguing text, ephemera delights the eye and feeds our curiousity.”

This fine description of old paper collecting comes from the website of The Ephemera Society of America. A non-profit organization, the society was formed to cultivate and encourage interest in ephemera, and to promote the collecting of vintage paper.
